Resumo: In the centuries before the establishment of Portuguese court and, with them, the teaching and practice of essentially medicalactions in Brazil, there were many people and intercrossed understandingsurrounding the healing practices. In this article, the formation of therapeutic cognizance in the colonial scenario will be examined, a kind of knowledge which only could be formed by the interchange of ideas from the “Old World” and the needs – and possibilities – in the tropics.
