O primeiro viajou nos anos 1970 com a comitiva da Tel Quel, a convite da agência de turismo chinesa, uma experiência controlada e organizada. Morin, duas décadas depois e após as reformas políticas, sociais e econômicas, visitou a China como convidado da Associação Chinesa para Compreensão Internacional (CAFIU), produzindo outras reflexões acerca do país em questão.
