The diversity of storage media stands as a source of research for two points of view: the countless possibilities they offer and the challenges that involve choices. As an example, it deals with the research on the Teatro do Bebé, a circus-theater family of Rio Grande do Sul, which has been given by the inclusion of some familiar photographic and documentary sources, newspaper advertisements, and news about the group / family, but mainly through the production of documents, i.e., interviews and field research in the area of the canvas where the travelingtheater group does its presentations. When the research is related to the trajectory of a group, or a human activity in the process, not based on one specific file or a fixed space organized to gather the necessary documents, it is also a way to unite the different documentary sources on one specific collection. The research process becomes thus constitutive of a collection on a given subject, this collection organized according to the logics and goals of the researcher.
