Resumo: | Anishinaabe artist Rebecca Belmore responds to globalizationthrough artistic methods that include longstanding Indigenous traditionsand conceptual frameworks. In this article I focus on the entwinedaesthetics of abstraction and blood memory in her works. Generally, cultural studies scholars have considered globalization through patternsof abstraction, or making-autonomous elements previously embedded ina specific context. These thinkers emphasize processes of innovation andchange as fundamental tenets of abstraction, culturally and aesthetically.Eschewing this framework, Belmore’s framings of abstraction centerIndigenous knowledge –what I am calling blood memory (MITHLO,2011; BENESIINAABANDAN, 2013; LINKLATER, 2013)—in orderto uncover the aesthetic foundations of modern abstraction in Indigenousthought. Abstraction has been a continuous and principal element ofIndigenous aesthetics in North America for many thousands of years(PHILLIPS and BERLO, 1998). |

Abstraction has been a continuous and principal element ofIndigenous aesthetics in North America for many thousands of years(PHILLIPS and BERLO, 1998).A artista Anishinaabe Rebecca Belmore responde à globalização por meio de métodos artísticos. Abecan2015-11-26info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufpel.edu.br/index.php/interfaces/article/view/673610.15210/interfaces.v14i2.6736Interfaces Brasil/Canadá; v. 14 n. 2 (2014): Transnactional Literacies; 80-98Interfaces, Brazil/Canada, Brazilian Journal of Canadian Studies; Vol. 14 No. 2 (2014): Transnactional Literacies; 80-98Interfaces, Brasil/Canadá; Vol. 14 Núm. 2 (2014): Transnactional Literacies; 80-98Interfaces, Brésil/Canadá; Vol. 14 No 2 (2014): Transnactional Literacies; 80-981984-56771519-099410.15210/interfaces.v14i2reponame:Interfaces Brasil/Canadá (Online)instname:Associação Brasileira de Estudos Canadenses (ABECAN)instacron:UFPELenghttps://periodicos.ufpel.edu.br/index.php/interfaces/article/view/6736/4642Copyright (c) 2015 Interfaces Brasil/Canadáinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessJacobson-Konefal, Jessica Rachel2019-11-03T15:56:42Zoai:ojs.ufpel:article/6736Revistahttps://periodicos.ufpel.edu.br/index.php/interfaces/indexPUBhttps://periodicos.ufpel.edu.br/index.php/interfaces/oai||interfaces.contato@outlook.com|| gunter@terra.com.br1984-56771519-0994opendoar:2019-11-03T15:56:42Interfaces Brasil/Canadá (Online) - Associação Brasileira de Estudos Canadenses (ABECAN)false |
