A indiferença quanto ao Outro, ou seja, o desconhecido habitante do espaço público, decorre de ele ser compreendido, prioritariamente, como hostil (DERRIDA, 1974; LEITÃO, 2009) posto que ele, reduzido ao mundo do sujeito (morador), é, assim, identificado. Tal posicionamento diante do Outro reflete uma ética que nasce do sujeito (Eu) e que tem a Ontologia como seu substrato (fatores como os de ordem socioculturais e econômicos são consequentes dessa condição). Esta tese apresenta outro fundamento, aquele desenvolvido pelo filósofo lituano Emmanuel Lévinas (1906-1995), que propõe uma inversão e traz a ética para a condição primeira da filosofia, ao postular a ética da alteridade. A noção é que se deve coexistir e responder à interpelação do Outro independentemente de quem ele seja, uma vez que ele não é objeto de apreensão do sujeito. Deriva daí o questionamento que impulsionou o desenvolvimento desta tese: existem propriedades arquitetônicas urbanas embasadas na ética da alteridade? A hipótese é de que existem, mas elas aindanão foram identificadas. Configura-se, assim, o seu objetivo: identificar os princípios da ética da alteridade que possam relacionar-se às propriedades arquitetônicas urbanas para propor predicados espaciais da alteridade. Os objetos de análise selecionados foram duas correntes do pensamento do urbanismo: (i) a funcionalista, por meio do Documento elaborado no IV Congresso de Arquitetura e Urbanismo (CIAM): a Carta de Atenas, e (ii) a humanista, por meio dos Documentos elaborados pelo grupo de arquitetos urbanistas Team 10 nos dois últimos Congressos de Arquitetura e Urbanismo – IX e X CIAMs: a Carta do Habitat e o Documento de Doorn.Ainda foi objeto da vertente humanista a contribuição crítica de Jane Jacobs contida no seu livro Morte e Vida nas Grandes Cidades Americanas (1961). Utilizou-se o método de análise de conteúdo (BARDIN, 1977) sobre as propriedades arquitetônicas urbanas do recorte espacial referente à relação entre as edificações (o espaço do sujeito), os espaços de limiar (a ética) e os espaços públicos (o espaço do Outro). Os resultados foram relacionados às bases filosóficas da ética da alteridade. Finalmente, demonstra-se que seus fundamentos integram as duas correntes distintas do urbanismo expressas em diferentes predicados espaciais da alteridade. A sombra acolhedora das edificações que se suspendempara as diferentes pessoas e a aproximação solidária daquelas edificações que se dobram para todos, dentre outros, fazem face ao recebimento do Outro,de modo a favorecer a coexistência ética.CAPESThe identification of relationships between the way people from middle and upper classes inhabit Brazilian cities, generally in vertical condominiums without contact with the outside, and the dark side of individualism (Taylor, 2011) that explains the need to live among the supposedly equal, led this thesis to build a theoretical alignment between urbanism and philosophy. The indifference to the Other, that is, the unknown inhabitant of the public space, derives from it is being understood, as a priority, as hostile (DERRIDA, 1974 and LEITÃO, 2009) since it, reduced to the world of the subject (inhabitant) thus it is identified. Such positioning in relation to the Other reflects an ethics that is born from the subject (I) and that has Ontology as its substrate (factors such as socio-cultural and economic factors are consequent of this condition). This thesis presents another foundation, that was developed by the Lithuanian philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas (1906-1995), who proposes an inversion and brings the ethics to the first condition of philosophy, when it postulates the ethics of alterity. The notion is that one must coexist and respond to the interpellation of the Other regardless of who he is, since he is not subject to apprehension of the subject. It follows from the questioning that propelled the development of this thesis: are there urban architectural properties based on the ethics of alterity The hypothesis is that they exist, but they have not yet been identified. Its aim is to identify the principles of the ethics of alterity that can be related to the urban architectural properties to propose spatial predicates of otherness. The selected objects of analysis were two streams of urbanism thinking: (i) the functionalist, through the Document elaborated at the Fourth Congress of Architecture and Urbanism (CIAM): the Athens Charter, and (ii) the humanist, through the Documents prepared by the group of urbanistic architects Team 10 in the last two Architecture and Urbanism Congresses - IX and X CIAMs: the Habitat Charter and the Doorn Document. The critical contribution of Jane Jacobs contained in her book Death and Life in the Great American Cities (1961) was also the subject of humanism. We used the content analysis method (BARDIN, 1977) on the urban architectural properties of the spatial clipping referring to the relationship between the buildings (the space of the subject), the threshold spaces (ethics) and public spaces from the other). The results were related to the philosophical bases of the ethics of alterity. Finally, it is shown that its foundations integrate the two distinct currents of urbanism expressed in different spatial predicates of otherness.
