CHILDHOOD AND AUTHORITY IN INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: GRANDPARENTS’S NARRATIVES ABOUT CHILDREN’S EDUCATION

Resumo: The article presents an excerpt from the doctoral research and aims to reflect on childhood and authority in intergenerational relationships. In the methodology, a qualitative approach was followed, using the techniques of individual and collective interviews by digital means (Zoom platform and WhatsApp application). Ten individual interviews were carried out with seven grandmothers and three grandfathers, residents of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, and a collective interview with six of their grandchildren. In this article, the perspective of grandparents on the role and the different attributions they have assumed in contemporary families is emphasized, calling into question the role of grandparents in the Education of children. The narratives show the tension between giving or not giving advice, the opposition of the participants to the idea that grandmothers and grandfathers miseducate, and affection, love, dialogue and play as valued aspects in the relationship with children. The text dialogues, mainly, with the philosophy of Walter Benjamin and the philosophical anthropology of Martin Buber. In addition to these theorists, Hannah Arendt, Myriam Lins de Barros, Françoise Dolto, Manuel Sarmento, among others, support this discussion.

En la metodología se siguió un enfoque cualitativo, utilizando las técnicas de entrevistas individuales y colectivas por medios digitales (plataforma Zoom y aplicación WhatsApp). Se realizaron diez entrevistas individuales con siete abuelas y tres abuelos, residentes en las ciudades de Río de Janeiro y Niterói, y una entrevista colectiva con seis de sus nietos. Este artículo enfatiza la perspectiva de los abuelos sobre el rol y las diferentes atribuciones que han asumido en las familias contemporáneas, cuestionando el rol de los abuelos en la educación de los hijos. Las narraciones muestran la tensión entre dar o no dar consejos, la oposición de los participantes a la idea de que las abuelas y los abuelos mal educan, y el cariño, el amor, el diálogo y el juego como aspectos valorados en la relación con los niños. El texto dialoga, principalmente, con la filosofía de Walter Benjamin y la antropología filosófica de Martin Buber. Además de estos teóricos, Hannah Arendt, Myriam Lins de Barros, Françoise Dolto, Manuel Sarmento, entre otros, apoyan esta discusión.O artigo apresenta um recorte da pesquisa de doutorado e tem como objetivo refletir sobre infância e autoridade em relações intergeracionais. Na metodologia, seguiu-se a abordagem qualitativa, utilizando as técnicas de entrevistas individuais e coletivas por meios digitais (plataforma Zoom e aplicativo WhatsApp). Foram realizadas dez entrevistas individuais com sete avós e três avôs, moradores das cidades do Rio de Janeiro e de Niterói, e uma entrevista coletiva com seis de seus netos crianças.
