The intonation of absolute questions in Northern Chile: Iquique and La Serena

Resumo: The purpose of this research is to describe the melodic profile of absolute interrogative utterances produced by Chilean speakers from the cities of Iquique and La Serena and to compare the behavior of their intonation curves. About 14 hours of audio were considered and 98 utterances were selected, which were analyzed using the postulates of the Melodic Analysis of Speech (MAS) in its acoustic phase. Among the main results, it was observed that the absolute questions of Chilean Spanish have their own characteristics and are not so similar to those described for peninsular Spanish: normally there is no first peak or declination, bodies appear that can be ascending or flat (with small undulations or zigzag) and ascending final inflections, ascending final inflections to the nucleus with a posterior descent or circumflex. Whether in the case of sentences with an ascending body and ending or those with a flat body and an ascending final inflection, there is diversity in terms of the ascent ranges used, although abrupt ones predominate, with a percentage equal to or greater than 101% of ascent.

Se consideraron alrededor de 14 horas de audio y se seleccionaron 98 enunciados, los que fueron analizados utilizando los postulados del Análisis Melódico del Habla (AMH) en su fase acústica. Dentro de los principales resultados se observó que las interrogativas absolutas del español de Chile presentan características propias y no tan similares a lo descrito para el español peninsular: normalmente no existe primer pico ni declinación, aparecen cuerpos que pueden ser ascendentes o planos (con pequeñas ondulaciones o zigzag) e inflexiones finales ascendentes, inflexiones finales ascendentes hasta el núcleo con un descenso posterior o circunflejas.
