ART AS LIFE RE-MEANING TO ADOLESCENTS: EXPRESSIONS IN DANCING

Resumo: This study objectified to understand adolescents’ expectations and feelings on their participation andpersonal development in the dancing group of EDISCA - Dancing School and Social Integration to Children and Adolescents(Escola de Dança e Integração para Crianças e Adolescentes). Nine adolescents took part in the research, carried out inSeptember/ 2006. The techniques used were focus group and a semi-structured interview where the units of meaningswere apprehended in order to encompass the following categories: expectations about EDISCA - showing the desire to bea dancer, the urge to achieve personal growth and a promising future; Adolescents’ feelings on participation and personalgrowth in the dancing group at EDISCA facing the acquired self-knowledge, self-confidence and maturity. The opportunitiesavailable to adolescents were meaningful in building their personal growth, thus, it is fundamental to support the creationof similar initiatives as way a to reduce social exclusion.

As técnicas utilizadas foram grupo focal eentrevista semi-estruturada, quando foram abstraídas as unidades de significações que formaram as seguintes categorias:Expectativa dos adolescentes sobre a incersão na EDISCA - mostrando o desejo de ser bailarino, a vontade de alcançar ocrescimento pessoal e um futuro promissor; Sentimentos dos adolescentes sobre a participação e desenvolvimentopessoal no corpo de baile da EDISCA - diante do autoconhecimento, da autoconfiança e maturidade adquirida. Asoportunidades ofertadas aos adolescentes foram significativas na construção do desenvolvimento pessoal, portanto,torna-se imprescindível apoiar a criação de iniciativas semelhantes, como forma de diminuir a exclusão social.Este estudio tuvo como objetivo comprender las expectativas y sentimientos de los adolescentes sobre laparticipación y desarrollo personal en el cuerpo de baile de EDISCA - escuela de danza e integración social para niños yadolescentes. Nueve adolescentes participaron de la investigación, realizada en septiembre de 2006. Las técnicas utilizadasfueron grupos focales y entrevistas semi-estructuradas, fueron abstraídas las unidades de significación que formaron lossiguientes temas: expectativas sobre EDISCA – mostrando el deseo de ser bailarín, las ganas de alcanzar el crecimientopersonal y un futuro prometedor; sentimientos actuales – frente al autoconocimiento, la autoconfianza y la madurezadquirida. Las oportunidades ofrecidas a los adolescentes fueron significativas para la obtención de desarrollo personaly la estructuración de un futuro prometedor.
