The conceptualization of the terms globalization and poverty is complex. Although studies about the first therm are recent and often controversial, globalization, in the most commonly used way, refers to a phenomenon of social-economic integration among coutries, occurred in the twentieth century. In case of Brazil, during the economic openness. By its turn poverty must be understood as the lack of a range of variables that goes beyond the income analysis. Analysing two research papers, from IPEA and UNDP, respectively, was possible to verify, however, that many social indicators improved during the time the country was exposed to the phenomenon.
