Defesa: Curitiba, 04/11/2013Inclui referênciasÁrea de concentração: FilosofiaResumo: A presente dissertação tem por objetivo a exposição e comparação das abordagens políticas do conceito de tradução cultural em Homi Bhabha e Judith Butler. Trata-se assim de destacar a constituição do referido conceito nas publicações de cada autor, comparando-os e enfatizando o que se coloca como "político". Argumenta-se que, para realizá-lo, é necessária a articulação entre conceitos variados que constituem a tradução cultural, o que denominamos constelações. No primeiro capítulo, desenvolvemos a hipótese de compreensão do conceito de tradução cultural elaborado por Homi Bhabha, em publicações da década de 1980 e 1990, a partir da distinção entre as concepções de diversidade cultural e diferença cultural. Para tanto, apresentamos como constitutivo destes referenciais as críticas de Bhabha a noções de multiculturalismo e determinados vieses de representação da alteridade, assim como seu uso das noções de enunciação, cultura híbrida, différance e a abordagem de textos coloniais do séculos XVIII e XIX e da literatura de finais do século XX. Destacamos neste âmbito de que modo, segundo o crítico indiano, a política é diretamente relacionada à textualidade para, por fim, apontarmos diretamente a sua elaboração do conceito de tradução cultural a partir da recepção de A Tarefa do Tradutor, de Walter Benjamin. O segundo capítulo é dedicado às publicações de Judith Butler que perpassam as décadas de 1990 e 2000, tendo como um dos eixos centrais o vínculo estabelecido pela autora entre tradução cultural e direitos universais não-colonialistas. Apontamos para aproximação realizada pela filósofa entre cultura, contingência e universalidade, destacando sua crítica à relação estabelecida entre cultura e universalidade no estruturalismo (Lacan e Lévi-Strauss) e o desenvolvimento da crítica hegeliana ao formalismo kantiano. Em seguida, apontamos nos textos de Butler a continuidade no uso do conceito de performatividade e sua relação com a tradução cultural e outros conceitos (sociedade civil, contradição performativa) no seu pensamento político. No terceiro capítulo, argumentamos que as concepções de tradução cultural em Bhabha e Butler se aproximam no plano de sua abordagem como processo político imanente de significação, ressignificação e repetição (citação). Indicamos ainda como a centralidade da reflexão em torno da linguagem e da temporalidade atrelada à tradução cultural aproximam os autores tanto quanto as limitações apresentadas por ambos no desenvolvimento da relação entre corpo e tradução cultural. Por outro lado, encontramos distinções nas abordagens dos autores em torno do conceito de tradução cultural: não apenas pelo uso das noções de comunidade e sociedade civil, mas também na ênfase de Butler na ligação da tradução cultural com direitos e, a partir da década de 2000, com a reflexão sobre a ética - primeiro aspecto não desenvolvido por Bhabha, enquanto o segundo é diretamente vinculado pelo crítico à reflexão pós-colonial.Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to expose and compare the political approaches embedded in the concept of cultural translation in Homi Bhabha and Judith Butler. The strategy is to show how each author builds this concept in their writings, comparing them and stressing their definitions of "political". Our argument is that in order to achieve it, it is necessary to articulate the various concepts that constitute the cultural translation in what we call constellations. In the first chapter it is argued that the concept of cultural translation developed by Homi Bhabha in his writings of the 1980s and 90s must be understood based on a distinction between the concepts of cultural diversity and cultural difference. In order to do so, we show how these concepts are developed based on Bhabha's critique of some forms of multiculturalism and representations of otherness as well as on his use of the ideas of enunciation, cultural hybridity, différance and his analysis of colonial texts from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and literature of the late twentieth century. We show how, according to the Indian critic, politics are related to textuality in order to, finally, explore how the concept of cultural translation is based on The Task of The Translator by Walter Benjamin. The second chapter looks at Judith Butler's writings at the turn of the century, mainly exploring the relation established by the author between cultural translation and universal rights non-colonial. We also indicate how the philosopher brings together culture, contingency and universality, showing her critique of the relation between culture and universality in structuralism (Lacan and Lévi-Strauss) and the development of the Hegelian critique of Kantian formalism. We then indicate the persistent use of the concept of performativity in Butler's writings and its relation to cultural translation and other concepts (civil society and performative contradiction) in her political thought. The third chapter argues that the concept of cultural translation in Bhabha and Butler are close to each other in their approach to thought as an immanent political process of signification, resignification, and repetition (citation). We also indicate the similarity of their ideas on language, temporality, and cultural translation as well as their limitations when treating the relation between body and cultural translation.
