Abstract: The present study investigated the linguistic attitudes of Italian-Brazilians in relation to the Italian language spoken in southern Santa Catarina. The five cities involved in the survey are: Pedras Grandes, Urussanga, Criciuma (the largest city in the south of the state), Nova Veneza and Siderópolis. Thus, one of the dimensions to be analyzed was the diatopical (geographical). The research aims also to review other three dimensions: diageracional (age), diagenérica (sex) and diazonal (rural and urban), in other words, the study want to check the proportions of positive, negative and neutral lingusitic atitudes between young and old, men and women, inhabitants of rural and urban areas in five different cities of in southern Santa Catarina. After making the verification of the percentage of positive, negative and neutral attitudes in the four aforementioned dimensions, it intends to also analyze the economic, social and / or historical reasons that would justify such results. For this purpose, there have been made 80 semi-structured interviews, 16 in each of the five cities chosen for research. All respondents have Italian descent on his father, mother or both sides. The results showed that the majority of the language attitudes expressed by Italian-Brazilians are positive in relation to the Italian language spoken in the region. Cities with more positive attitudes, in order, are: Nova Veneza, Urussanga, Siderópolis, Criciúma and Pedras Grandes. Municipal incentives and historical precedents may be the reasons for such results with concerns the first two cities on the list. On the other hand, negative attitudes were more frequent in the towns of Pedras Grandes, Criciuma, Siderópolis, Urussanga and Nova Veneza, in that order. More positive attitudes in urban areas than in rural areas where found. This might be explained by the resumption and the revaluation of the Italian identity that is taking place throughout the south of Santa Catarina, but in particular in the urban area. Furthermore, linguistic conservation movements generally tend to start at exactly the urban area (FISHMAN, 1975). In regard to age, the older showed more positive attitudes towards spoken Italian language in the region. Perhaps the reason is because this is their mother language; this language is linked to good family and childhood memories. Finally, the results in relation to the attitudes of men and women were the least representative in this study and found that women have more negative attitudes towards spoken Italian in the region than men. Women care more about the social status of the language and the results obtained can reveal traces of the original thoughts of the nationalization campaign of the 30s, a time where being Italian was considered shameful, in other words, the south of Santa Catarina appears to be in a transition period in which, despite the presence of negative language attitudes, there are superiorly more positive attitudes, specially among older and in urban areas.299 f. : il.application/pdfDisponível em formato digitalLetrasLíngua italiana - Linguistica - ConversaçãoLingua italiana - Estudo e ensinoLinguagem e história - Santa Catarina - Lingua italianaAtitudes linguísticas de ítalo-brasileiros em Criciúma (SC) e Regiãoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisporreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFPRinstname:Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR)instacron:UFPRinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessORIGINALR - T - LUCIANA LANHI BALTHAZAR.pdfapplication/pdf4496930https://acervodigital.ufpr.br/bitstream/1884/42879/1/R%20-%20T%20-%20LUCIANA%20LANHI%20BALTHAZAR.pdfe21a04e9c828e619f8d0ec912510dceaMD51open accessTEXTR - T - LUCIANA LANHI BALTHAZAR.pdf.txtExtracted Texttext/plain691234https://acervodigital.ufpr.br/bitstream/1884/42879/2/R%20-%20T%20-%20LUCIANA%20LANHI%20BALTHAZAR.pdf.txt7f598f540ec1a7c0ca184f7bf87456abMD52open accessTHUMBNAILR - T - LUCIANA LANHI BALTHAZAR.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1109https://acervodigital.ufpr.br/bitstream/1884/42879/3/R%20-%20T%20-%20LUCIANA%20LANHI%20BALTHAZAR.pdf.jpg0d1172b0b7b9ae3eca6c1ef4142a5ccbMD53open access1884/428792020-03-12 11:20:50.83open accessoai:acervodigital.ufpr.br:1884/42879Repositório de PublicaçõesPUBhttp://acervodigital.ufpr.br/oai/requestopendoar:3082020-03-12T14:20:50Repositório Institucional da UFPR - Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR)false |
