Defesa: Curitiba, 2008Inclui bibliografiaResumo: O estudo trata da constituição do meio artístico do Estado do Paraná que favoreceu a arte abstrata por volta da década de 1960. A pesquisa foi composta, sobretudo, pelas fontes orais, através da memória dos próprios sujeitos que vivenciaram os acontecimentos: o artista, o administrador da cultura, o crítico, o professor, o colecionador de arte. Incorporamos aos depoimentos reportagens de periódicos, a bibliografia sobre a arte no Paraná, catálogos de exposições e as 21 publicações da revista paranaense Joaquim. Autores como Pierre Bourdieu, Carlo Ginzburg, Aracy Amaral, Norbert Elias, Arthur Danto e outros, complementaram as reflexões realizadas a partir das fontes. Jacques Revel e os autores da História Oral orientaram o método de trabalho facilitando o tratamento das fontes orais e atentando, principalmente, para o fato de que a pesquisa não trata da verdade, mas do nosso ponto de vista e o dos depoentes. Os assuntos abordados foram o público da arte, a constituição dos acervos de museus, a organização de exposições, os artistas escolhidos e os esquecidos, a idéia de moderno para os paranaenses, o embate entre as regiões centrais e periféricas da arte, os estabelecidos e os de fora, a arte contemporânea e o público, a socialização da arte. Todos eles foram intercalados com exemplos locais, de outros Estados e até mesmo de fora do Brasil, numa tentativa de confirmar a suspeita inicial de que não existe uma arte tipicamente paranaense e de que não há nada no meio artístico desse Estado que o diferencie das demais localidades. As intrigas, os posicionamentos arbitrários ou conforme a conjuntura, o apadrinhamento, as seleções, as louváveis conquistas são comuns a todos os locais.Abstract: The study reports the constitution of the artistic environment in the State of Paraná that worked in favor of the abstract form of art around the 60'. The research has been composed, manly, by oral sources, extracted from the memories of the people who lived the facts: the artist, the cultural administrator, the critic, the scholars and the art collector. Along side with the statements there are weekly news reports, the state's art bibliography, exposition catalogs and the 21 publications of the magazine Joaquim. Authors like Pierre Bourdieu, Carlo Ginzburg, Aracy Amaral, Norbert Elias, Arthur Danto and others complement the reflections made directly from the artistic sources. Jacques Revel and the other authors of the Oral History guided the research method by easing the handling of the oral sources and especially watching out for the fact that the research does not report the truth, but our point of view and those of the interviewed. The subjects dealt with were the art's public, the constitution of the museum's collection, the organization of expositions, the artists both remembered and forgotten, the idea of modern for the people of Paraná, the struggle between the central and peripheral artistic regions, the ones already established and the outsiders, contemporary art, it's audience and the socialization of art. All of them shifting between local and outside examples and even examples from out of Brazil, all in an attempt to confirm the initial hunch that there is not a typical paranaense form of art and also that there is nothing that can distinguish it from the other regions.
