Os seus membros podem ser reconhecidos pelo primeiro tergo metassomal sub-peciolado assim como carenado transversalmente; a válvula propodeal lamelar translúcida bem desenvolvida e contínua com a lamela apical do propódeo que também é desenvolvida e translúcida; a redução da abertura da fossa axilar, devida à expansão interna da crista escutelar e o do painel lateral da axila; a existência de pelo menos uma pequena fóssula axilar anterior vizinha à paratégula; a presença de duas pequenas fóveas próximas uma da outra e posicionadas à meia distânçia entre os ocelos posteriores e o occipício numa área mais ou menos plana de forma semielíptica com escultura e pilosidade diferenciada no vértice da fêmea; o metanoto com uma linha transversal de dentes e o propódeo simples, livre de carenas ou lamelas além da carena medial. Outros caracteres úteis incluem a redução ou desaparecimento das carenas occipital e epicnemial; a presença de carena pretegular; a ausência de notaulos, as tégulas fusiformes não expandidas e com o ápice posterior agudo, decotado e ligeiramente torcido para dentro no nível da paretégula; a margem simples dos tergos e esternos metassomais e a ausência de projeção ou superfície truncada sub-basal no segundo esterno metassomal. O gênero é revisado aqui totalizando 13 espécies, incluindo 8 espécies novas e 3 novas combinações para espécies já conhecidas: S. polybioides (Schulthess) n. comb., S. mimica (Kohl) n. comb., S. flavotestacea (Giordani Soika) n. comb., S. hasyva n. sp., S. cooperi n. sp., S. guaraya n. sp., S. rejectoides n. sp., S. occipitalis n. sp., S. tanykaju n. sp., S. hermetica n. sp. e S. grossa n. sp. São fornecidas neste trabalho uma chave de identificação, descrições completas, ilustrações das estruturas morfológicas e mapas de distribuição para todas as espécies. As hipóteses de relacionamento filogenético para as espécies de Stenonartonia foram reconstruídas com base em 82 aracteres morfológicos. Vinte terminais foram incluídos, treze deles pertencendo ao grupo estudado e sete pertencendo aos grupos externos. Dois esquemas de pesagem dos caracteres, igual e implícita, foram implementados nas análises, resultando cada um deles numa única árvore, diferindo uma topologia da outra somente pela posição relativa de duas espécies na base de um dos grupos de espécies reconhecidos. A análise corrobora a monofilia de Stenonartonia e permite reconhecer três grupos de espécies dentro do gênero.Abstract: Stenonartonia is a neotropical genus restricted to the forested regions of South America east of the Andes. Their members are recognized by the subpetiolate and transversely carinate first metasomal tergum, the highly salient lamellar and translucid apical propodeal valvula which is continuous with the also enlarged and lamellar apical propodeal lamella; the reduction of the opening of the axillary fossa by the innerly expansion of the scutellar crest and the lateral axillary pannel; the existence of at least a small anterior axillary fovea neighbour to the parategula; the presence of two rather closely set foveae midway between the ocelli and the occiput in a rather flat crescentic area of differentiated sculpture and pilosity on the female vertex; the transversely toothed metanotum and the relatively simple propodeal structure devoid of carinae or lamellae apart from the medial carina. Other useful characters include the reduced to absent occipital and epicnemial carinae; the presence of pretegular carina; the absence of mesoscutal notauli; the non-expanded fusiform tegula with a sharp, notched and slightly introflexed tip at the level of the parategula; the simple posterior margin of the metasomal terga and sterna and the second metasomal sternum devoid of any subasal truncation or projection. The genus is here revised totalizing 13 species, including 8 new species and 3 new combinations: S. polybioides (Schulthess) n. comb., S. mimica (Kohl) n. comb., S. lavotestacea (Giordani Soika) n. comb., S. hasyva n. sp., S. cooperi n. sp., S. guaraya n. sp., S. rejectoides n. sp., S. occipitalis n. sp., S. tanykaju n. sp., S. hermetica n. sp. and S. grossa n. sp. An identification key, along with full descriptions, illustrations of morphological features and distribution maps for all of the species are provided in this work. A phylogenetic analysis for the species of Stenonartonia was carried out based on 82 morphological characters. Twenty terminals were included; thirteen of them belonging to the group here studied and seven to outgroup taxa. Two character weighting schemes, equal and implied, were implemented in the analysis, resulting in a single tree for each one, differing one topology from the other only in the relative position of two species at the base of one of the speciesgroups recognized. The analysis corroborates the monophyly of Stenonartonia and allows the recognition of three species groups in the genus.96f. : il.
