A Gramática Tradicional atribui o caráter de indeterminação a apenas dois tipos de sujeito: com o verbo (intransitivo ou transitivo indireto) na terceira pessoa do singular, acompanhado do pronome se; e com o verbo na terceira pessoa do plural, sem sujeito expresso. Entretanto, alguns trabalhos de abordagem gerativista, discursiva e variacionista apresentam diversos outros recursos por meio dos quais o sujeito indeterminado se realiza. Nosso trabalho, fundamentado em MENON (1994), apresenta como formas de indeterminação as variantes: a gente, eles, eu, FNs (formas nominais), nós, se, tu, você, VPSA (voz passiva sem agente), ØV3PS (verbo na terceira pessoa do singular), ØV3PP (verbo na terceira pessoa do plural), distribuídas em 6.826 ocorrências, obtidas em 72 entrevistas, cada uma com aproximadamente 45 minutos de duração. Na análise desses dados, submetidos ao conjunto de programas estatísticos VARBRUL, levamos em consideração a variável lingüística tempos e modos verbais e os fatores extralingüísticos sexo, faixa etária, escolaridade e localidade. Os resultados mostraram que, primeiramente, as formas apresentadas pela Gramática Tradicional não são as mais usadas no corpus; depois, que as formas você e ØV3PS de um modo geral são as mais empregadas, que o tempo presente do indicativo é o mais propício para a indeterminação e que os fatores extralingüísticos considerados exercem influência na escolha do recurso de que o falante se vale para indeterminar o sujeito em seus enunciados.Abstract: The aim of this study is to describe the usage of the indeterminate subject in the current speech in the countryside of Paraná State, namely the cities of Irati, Londrina e Pato Branco in the VARSUL Project (Variação Lingüística Urbana na Região Sul - Urban Linguistic Variation in the Southern Region). The tradicional Portuguese Grammar atributes the indetermination to just two kinds of subjects: one with the verb (being intransitive or transitive with an indirect object) third person, singular, with the Portuguese pronoun se; and other with the verb in the third person, plural, no subject showed. Nevertheless, some generative, discursive and variation approach works present a broad range of resources in which the Portuguese indeterminate subject may happen. Our work has its basis in Menon (1994) and presents as indeterminate forms the variants a gente (one, e.g. one needs), they, I, the Portuguese nominal forms, we, Portuguese pronoum se, tu (thou, an archaic variation of "you"), you, passive voice with no agent, synthetic passive voice, verb in the third person singular and plural, all distributed in 6826 occurrences collected in 72 interviews, each of those of about 45 minutes. In the analysis of these data, which were processed through the VARBRUL statistic programs system, we considered the linguistic factor verbal tenses and modes and extralinguistical factors as sex, age, education and place. The results have showed that the forms indicated by the Tradicional Grammar are not the most used in the corpus.
