Resumo: The length of time the weed species present greater competition with the crop of cacao is of great importance for the establishment of a control program. The objective is to determine the period in which the culture of cacao agroforestry systems in must be kept clean and in one in which culture can live with a natural weed population, without affecting their growth and development. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Station Days Paulo Morelli, located in Medicilândia PA. The climate of the governed 6 Aw and the soil type ultisoil strophic. The following treatments were tested: 1) no December / January competition; 2) semcompetição March / April; 3) no June / July competition; 4) without in December / January and June / July competition; 5-) without March / April and September / October competition; 6) without competition from December to May; 7) without competition from June to November; 8-) without competition throughout the period of the year; and 9) competition during the entire period of the year. Treatments 7:08 showed better vegetative growth increments, especially in stem diameter. On the other hand, the lowest values were found in treatments 1 and 9. These results indicate that the period of weed competition with the cacao tree is situated in the months from June to November, the period of low rainfall.

Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia/UFRA2011-05-25info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://ajaes.ufra.edu.br/index.php/ajaes/article/view/234Amazonian Journal of Agricultural Sciences Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Vol 48 No 1 (2007): RCA; 99 - 112Revista de Ciências Agrárias Amazonian Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; v. 48 n. 1 (2007): RCA; 99 - 1122177-87601517-591Xreponame:Revista de Ciências Agrárias (Belém.
