Resumo: Holdridge life zones are based on the relationships among precipitation, temperature, altitude levels and latitude, and they are useful in ecological applications, particularly in tropical areas. This study aimed to perform a climate classification of the Amazonas State cities according to Holdridge’s life zones and compare it with Köppen classification and original vegetation cover of the state. The comparisons were made using confusion matrices elaborated with spatial analysis tools. The results indicate biotemperatures ranging from 22.9 °C to 26.5 °C, increasing from West to East of the state. Five Holdridge life zones were found, tropical moist forest and tropical moist forest / wet forest, occupying about 85% of the state area. Three life zones corresponded 100% with the climate classification Af according to Köppen, and the other life zones reached correspondences of more than 75% with the same climate type. All life zones were found to be in open ombrophilous, dense ombrophilous and campinarana vegetation. In this way, Holdridge life zone system proved to be an important tool for climate classification in the state, corresponding to vegetation maps and to the Köppen climate classification.

In this way, Holdridge life zone system proved to be an important tool for climate classification in the state, corresponding to vegetation maps and to the Köppen climate classification. Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia/UFRA2019-09-26info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersiontextoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/otherapplication/pdfhttps://ajaes.ufra.edu.br/index.php/ajaes/article/view/3095Amazonian Journal of Agricultural Sciences Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Vol 62 (2019): RCARevista de Ciências Agrárias Amazonian Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; v. 62 (2019): RCA2177-87601517-591Xreponame:Revista de Ciências Agrárias (Belém.
