Resumo: The Samba de Aboio/ Saint Barbara Celebration is a festivity/practice of faith that takes place every year in the town of Aguada, in the city of Carmópolis in the state of Sergipe (SE). This celebration was created by an African woman named Tamashalim Ecuobanker. It is held to commemorate the Abolition of Slaves (1888), and at the same time devotions are made to Iansã/ Saint Barbara. The festivity, that has the year 1888 as a historical milestone, has crossed generations of Mota and Assis, the family that keeps the legacy started by Tamashalim. The Mota and Assis family, together with the community of Aguada, are the agents that maintain this celebration and act of faith. This paper aims to discuss some aspects that involve the organization and promotion of this festivity/faith practice, understanding that this expression points to the multiple types of resistance strategies of black culture in Brazil. The article is organized according to bibliographies that discuss the topic. In addition to this, ethnographic data was considered from previously conducted field research.
