Resumo: This research describes the data and process integration level of the pharmaceutical industry in Brazil and identifies the technical, managerial and organizational factors that impact the business performance and the internal and external integration of the companies, after Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems implementation. A survey was conducted on a sample of 37 pharmaceutical companies that use ERP systems, out of 98 that declared to have ERP systems already implemented or being implemented. The results taken by multivariable statistical techniques suggest that the higher are the skills in the business processes, the higher is the perception of company performance improvement, after the ERP systems implementation. Moreover they suggest that the systems implementation project management affects the internal integration improvement of the company. No technical, managerial or organizational factor appears to significantly affect the customers and suppliers external integration. Three groups of statistically differentiated companies could be identified, according to the studied factors. The first group is basically of large-sized companies that had implemented ERP some time ago. Some of those companies have already initiated integration systems implementation with customers and suppliers. The second group is basically of medium and small-sized companies that finished the ERP implementation recently. The third group is basically of smaller companies with on-going ERP implementation or that finished it recently. The company’s size and the post-implementation period are variables that are related to the perception of performance and integration improvement caused by the ERP systems implementation.
