Resumo: This article derived from a research work aiming at analyzing concepts of motherhood and child care in a group of mothers of children participating in Pra-Nenê Program, in Vila Cruzeiro do Sul, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2002. It aims at analyzing, the concepts of motherhood expressed by mothers, nurses, and official documents which guide that program, and how these were related to each other. Results show the existence of a conflict between concepts of motherhood and child care of the group of mothers and those present in the program text and in the educational practices developed by nurses.

Results show the existence of a conflict between concepts of motherhood and child care of the group of mothers and those present in the program text and in the educational practices developed by nurses.El artículo resultade una investigación que tuvo como meta el análisis de concepciones relativas a la maternidad y al cuidado infantil presentes en un grupo de mujeres, madres de niños registrados en el Programa Pra-Nenê (Para-Bebé), del suburbio Vila Cruzeiro do Sul, en la ciudad de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, durante el año 2002. Se busca analizar, de forma relacionada, concepciones de maternidad de las madres, de los profesionales de enfermería y aquellas contenidas en los documentos oficiales que nortean ese programa. Los resultados apuntan a concepciones de maternidad y de cuidado infantil conflictivas, cuando se toma como referencia las concepciones vigentes en el grupo de mujeres investigadas y aquellas que nortean el texto programático e informan las prácticas educativas desarrolladas por los/las profesionales.O artigo desdobra-se de uma pesquisa que teve por objetivo analisar concepções de maternidade e de cuidado infantil presentes em um grupo de mulheres, mães de crianças cadastradas no Programa Pra-Nenê, da Vila Cruzeiro do Sul, em Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, durante o ano de 2002. Procura analisar, de forma relacionada, concepções de maternidade das mães, dos/as profissionais de enfermagem e aquelas contidas nos documentos oficiais que norteiam o programa.
