Resumo: Childhood is a period of great importance during which the children´s potentiality for growth and development are flourishing, regarding either biological, psycho-social or cognitive aspects. Aiming at attending to the global needs of the children and being aware of the Nursing Staff of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre has been carrying on a program of stimulus to the children in such unit. The authors describe the program and report the plann that has been developed, underlining its importance.

Visando atender às necessidades globais da criança e sabedoras da relevância da estimulação quando de seua hospitalização, a equipe de Enfermgem da Unidade de Tratamento Intensivo Pediátrico (UTIP), do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre vem desenvolvendo um programa de estimulação às crianças desta Unidade.
