Resumo: The analysis of the production of scientific knowledge has been drawing the attention of many authors in several fields of study. The observation of this tendency consolidated my interest in embarking upon scientific knowledge by analyzing the material published by “OMEGA – Journal of Death and Dying”, an American periodical journal that specifically refers to published matter connected with the themes of death and dying. With this objective, I analysed the production that this journal provided from 1980 to 1994, totalizing 526 articles. To the analysis characteristics of the authors and co-authors were considered, themes discussed, and the methods used, including the main methodological tools. Results enable us to discern the tendencies of thematic approach as well as how they are combined and the possibilities of a methodological approach.

La observación de esta tendencia vino a consolidar mi interés en iniciarme científicamente analizando el conocimiento que está siendo divulgado por un periódico norte americano denominado “OMEGA – Journal of Death and Dying”, específico para publicaciones relacionadas a la temática muerte y morir. Con este objectivo yo analicé a cerca de la producción difundida por este periódico durante el período de 1980 a 1994, haciendo un total de 526 artículos. Para el análisis fueron considerados elementos relativos a la caracterización de los autores y coautores, a los temas abordados y a las metodologías utilizadas, incluyendo los principales instrumentos. Los resultados permiten evidenciar las tendencias de abordaje a cerca de la temática.A análise da produção do conhecimento científico vem merecendo a atenção de vários autores nas diversas áreas do saber. A observação desta tendência veio consolidar meu interesse em iniciar-me cientificamente analisando o conhecimento que vem sendo divulgado por um periódico norte americano denominado “OMEGA – Journal of Death and Dying”, específico para publicações relacionadas à temática da morte e do morrer. Com este objetivo, analisei a produção divulgada por este periódico durante o período de 1980 a 1994, totalizando 526 artigos. Para a análise foram considerados itens relativos à caracterização dos autores e co-autores, aos temas abordados e às metodologias utilizadas, incluindo os principais instrumentos metodológicos.
