Resumo: Founded in 1950, the Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) - Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul Nursing School - was the first nursing school in the State, being until today a reference in the education of nurses in southern Brazil. This research project is aimed at characterizing the profile of this course in the early 50’s, and to analyze how these characteristics influenced the Nursing School’s foundation and consolidation. For such purpose, a study was developed based on the methodology y of Oral History within the time frame of 1950 and 1957, the management period of the founder. Nine protagonists that lived then were interviewed through a semi-structured script. Is was found out that the period was marked by extremely strong features regarding a rigid moral education, control, body discipline, fight for autonomy, resistance against domination, and a quite high degree of requirements of the students converging into the Nightingale’s model of education.

El objetivo de esta investigación fue caracterizar el perfil del curso a principios de la década del 50 y analizar las influencias ejercidas por estas caracteristicas en la creación y en la consolidación de la Escuela de Enfermería de la UFRGS. Para ello, desarrollamos un estudio basado en la metodología de la Historia Oral, con espacio temporal entre los años de 1950 y 1957, período de gestión de las fundadoras. Entrevistamos nueve protagonistas que vivieron durante el referido periodo, utilizando un guión semiestructurado. Encontramos que el período estuvo marcado por caracteristicas extremadamente fuertes en lo tocante a la formación moral rígida, control, disciplina de los cuerpos, lucha por autonomía, resistencia a la dominación y un grado de exigencia muy elevado para las alumnas, lo que refleja el modelo nightingaleano de formaciónFundada em 1950, a Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) foi a primeira escola de enfermagem do Estado, sendo, ate hoje, referência na formação de enfermeiros no sul do Brasil. O objetivo desta investigação foi caracterizar o perfil do curso no inicio da década de 50 e analisar as influências exercidas por estas características na criação e na consolidação da Escola de Enfermagem da UFRGS. Para isso, desenvolvemos um estudo pautado na metodologia da História Oral, com espaço-temporal entre os anos de 1950 e 1957, período de gestão das fundadoras. Foram entrevistados nove atores, que vivenciaram o período em questão, utilizando um roteiro semi-estruturado.
