The women’s perceptions of risk pregnancies and its implications to their families

Resumo: This study aimed to identify the women’s perceptions of risk pregnancies and to investigate its implications to the families. The data was collected through a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews during the months of March and April of 1999. Five pregnant women were interviewed at the Obstetric Clinic of the University Hospital Júlio Müller in Cuiabá/MT. It was found that the women sometimes experience confused and contradictory feelings, since the “myth of motherhood and maternal love” is still very strong in our society. It was observed that the involvement and support of the family during a risky pregnancy are very important to the pregnant woman.

Los datos fueron colectados mediante entrevista semi-estructurada con abordage cualitativo, entre marzo y abril de 1999, con cinco gestantes internadas en la clínica gineco-obstetra del Hospital Universitario Julio Müler/MT. Identificouse que las gestantes vivenciaban sentimientos a veces confusos y contradictorios, una vez que todavía es fuerte en nuestra sociedad, el «mito de la maternidad y del amor materno». Se observo también cuanto es importante para la gestante el envolvimiento y apoyo de los familiares durante el embarazo de riesgo.Este estudo teve por objetivo identificar as percepções da gravidez de risco para as gestantes e investigar as implicações familiares nesse contexto. Os dados foram coletados através da abordagem qualitativa utilizando a entrevista semi-estruturada entre março e abril de 1999, com cinco gestantes internadas na clínica gineco-obstétrica do Hospital Universitário Júlio Muler/MT. Percebeu-se que as gestantes vivenciavam sentimentos, às vezes, confusos e contraditórios, devido ser ainda muito forte, em nossa sociedade , o “mito da maternidade e do amor materno”.
