Nursing laboratory as a technological subsystem of the organization: analysis of its utilization through critical incidents

Resumo: Viewing nursing laboratories as one of the technological subsystems at the University, the authors aimed at obtaining data in order to detect and analyse positive and negative incidents experienced by the undergraduate students related to the utilization of these laboratories. The study was developed at the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto´s College of Nursing, with a sample formed by 160 students from the second to the fourth year of the course. The methodology was based on the utilization of the critical incident technique, applied through interviews oriented by two questions directed to the obtainment of positive and negative situations. We found 448 critical incidents, and among them 186 (41.5%) were positive and 262 (58.5%) were negative, showing the insatisfaction of the undergraduate students regarding the activities developed or related to the nursing laboratory. We also observed the predominance of situations regarding the development of practical classes (58%), when related to training (18.1%), practical examination (9.6%) and other activities (14.3%).

Realizado en la Escuela de Enfermería de Ribeirão Preto de la Universidad de São Paulo, se contó con una muestra constituída por 160 alumnos entre el segundo y cuarto año. La metoldología consistió en la utilización de la técnica de los incidentes críticos aplicada a través de entrevistas orientadas por dos cuestones norteadoras para la obtención de situaciones positivas y negativas. Encontramos 448 incidentes críticos siendo 186 (41.5%) positivos y 262 (58.5%) negativos, lo que evidenció la insatisfación del alumno de pregrado com relación a las actividades desarrolladas o relacionadas al uso del laborátorio de enfermería. Hubo también la predominancia de situaciones relacionadas al desarrollo de aulas prácticas (58.0%), entrenamiento voluntário (18.1%), a pruebas prácticas (9.6%) y otras actividades (14.3%).Visualizando os laboratórios de enfermagem enquanto um dos subsistemas tecnológicos da Universidade, buscamos com este estudo detectar e dimensionar as ocorrências positivas e negativas vivenciadas pelo aluno de graduação, relacionadas à utilização destes laboratórios. Realizado na Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo, o estudo contou com uma amostra constituída por 160 alunos entre o segundo e quarto ano. A metodologia consistiu na utilização da técnica dos incidentes críticos aplicada através de entrevistas orientadas por duas questões norteadoras para obtenção de situações positivas e negativas. Obtivemos 448 incidentes críticos, sendo 186 (41,5%) positivos e 262 (58,5%) negativos, o que evidenciou a insatisfação do aluno de graduação no tocante às atividades desenvolvidas ou relacionadas ao uso de laboratório de enfermagem.
