Resumo: This text presents the expressive work of Delsarte and its two main sources: an empirical system of observation and a theoretical framework of a metaphysical nature. We present Delsarte’s empirical system of observation which was conceived in the first years of his life, going through a decisive change during his studies at the Paris Conservatoire. We also describe the way Delsarte, based on his observations, on the one hand, was able to escape an enslaving educational system focused on the imitation of teachers, and, on the other, re-trained his singing voice which had been ruined by the official singing school. This article articulates the theoretical framework of Delsarte, of a metaphysical order, presenting its origin in his conversion to Catholicism, in which the human body occupies the central stage. Indeed, observations and metaphysics are combined in Delsarte’s work to substantiate his whole teaching method and to define the general dynamics of his work: the spiritualisation of human beings through art.

Il décrit tout d’abord le système empirique d’observations delsartien, qui trouve son origine dans les toutes premières années de la vie de Delsarte et prend un tournant décisif lorsque ce dernier entreprend des études au Conservatoire de Paris: Delsarte, à partir de ses observations, parvient à échapper à un système d’apprentissage asservissant fondé sur l’imitation des professeurs; il peut aussi rééduquer sa voix chantée, que l’enseignement officiel du chant avait abîmée. Ce système empirique d’observations est ensuite articulé au cadre théorique delsartien, d’ordre métaphysique, dont l’origine se situe dans la conversion de Delsarte au catholicisme, dans laquelle le corps humain vient à occuper une position centrale. Observations et métaphysique se rejoignent ainsi chez Delsarte et alimentent toute sa pédagogie; elles définissent la dynamique générale de son travail: la spiritualisation de l’être humain par l’art.Este texto apresenta o trabalho expressivo de Delsarte e suas duas fontes principais: um sistema empírico de observações e um quadro teórico de ordem metafísica. Apresenta-se o sistema empírico de observações de Delsarte que tem suas origens nos primeiros anos de sua vida, passando por uma mudança decisiva nos seus estudos no Conservatório de Paris. Descreve-se o modo como Delsarte, a partir de suas observações, de um lado, consegue escapar de um sistema escravizante de aprendizado baseado na imitação dos professores, e, de outro, reeducar sua voz cantada arruinada pelo ensino oficial de canto. Esse sistema empírico de observação é articulado, em seguida, à teoria delsarteana, de ordem metafísica, cuja origem se situa na conversão de Delsarte ao catolicismo, segundo o qual o corpo humano ocupa uma posição central.
