Resumo: | This study discusses the influence François Delsarte’s ideas had on the pioneers of modern dance. Having rejected books on gestural rhetoric of his own time to conduct a rigorous study on human behavior in strong emotional situations, Delsarte established principles and systematized exercises that provided the pioneers of modern dance an alternative method of interpretation and creation, more centered on the subject and on their relationship with the environment, than on the imitation of traditional gestures. Delsarte’s system allowed modern creators to consider the took as a raw material for a research that was no longer defined by traditional techniques, but by the pursuit of a subjective form of corporeality. |

Après avoir rejeté les manuels de la rhétorique de son temps pour effectuer une étude rigoureuse du comportement humain dans des situations de seuil émotionnel, Delsarte a établi des principes et systématisé des exercices ayant fourni aux pionniers de la danse moderne une autre méthode d’interprétation et de création, davantage centrée sur le sujet et sur sa relation avec l’environnement, que sur la copie d’un geste approuvé par la tradition artistique. Partant des principes de Delsarte, les créateurs modernes ont pris le corps comme matière première pour une recherche qui ne se dfinit plus par le vocabulaire traditionnel, mais plutôt par la quête d’une matérialité subjective. Estudo que se refere à influência que o pensamento de François Delsarte exerceu sobre os pioneiros da modernidade da dança. Tendo rejeitado os manuais da retórica gestual de sua época para realizar um estudo rigoroso do comportamento humano em situações de limite emocional, Delsarte estabeleceu princípios e sistematizou exercícios que permitiram aos pioneiros da dança moderna um método alternativo de interpretação e criação, mais centrado no sujeito e em sua relação com o ambiente, do que na cópia de um gesto autorizado pela tradição artística. De posse dos princípios de Delsarte os criadores modernos tomaram o corpo como matéria-prima de uma pesquisa que não mais se definia pelo vocabulário tradicional, mas sim pela busca de uma corporeidade subjetiva.
