Resumo: | The Brazilian civil aviation industry has undergone profound changes since the 1990s, with liberalization of air transport of passengers, which led to important changes in the operation model of the air network; being the most obvious replacement of the system point-to-point for the networks hub-and-spoke. The combination of the current business model for airlines with the configuration of airport infrastructure and air traffic has proven to be highly inefficient. Overlooking these aspects, the objective of this study is to analyze competition in the airline industry inBrazil, using as the unit of analysis the network industries in the presence of essential facilities, in this work represented by access to slots – time of takeoff and landing – of the congested airports. The main conclusion is that the distribution of rights to land and takeoff is of substantial importance in determining the level of competition in the industry of air transport of passengers. |

A combinação do atual modelo de negócios das companhias com a configuração da infraestrutura aeroportuária e de tráfego aéreo tem se revelado altamente ineficiente. Com vistas nestes aspectos, o objetivo deste trabalho é fazer uma apreciação da concorrência no setor de aviação civil brasileiro, utilizando como unidade de análise as indústrias em rede na presença de instalações essenciais; aqui representado pelo acesso aos slots - horários de pouso e decolagem - dos aeroportos congestionados. A principal conclusão é que a distribuição de slots é de fundamental importância para estabelecer o nível de concorrência na indústria de transporte aéreo de passageiros.
