INTEGRAÇÃO ECONÔMICA E POLÍTICAS DE DESENVOLVIMENTO: EXPERIÊNCIAS E PERSPECTIVAS PARA A AMÉRICA LATINA

Resumo: The article analyzes the relation between regional integration and economic development, in accordance with different theoretical approaches, including the contribution of the CEPAL. The experiences of integration in Latin America (ALALC and ALADI) are studied from the angle of the development policies, searching to understand the reasons of its weak performance. The MERCOSUL is treated to follow, being distinguished the change of theoretical conception in its origin and its results until present. Concluding, it is stand out the chance of the adoption of development policies that the regionalism offers, comparatively the unilateralists and multilateralists strategies. In this sense, the paper argues that an integration constructed with the use of active policies of development in an agreement between the members of the group tends to produce better results that the simple commercial liberalization.
