Resumo: This work aims to measure the impact of family structure in children education, specifically in delayed schooling. The instrumental variables method is used in the empirical strategy. As an exogenous variation for family structure, the percentage of religious individuals in Brazilian municipalities is used with the hypothesis that different social pressures on family structures are given by the religious coverage in municipalities. With 2010 Census data, evidence suggests that children that lives in a household with their mother (or stepmother) and father (or stepfather) exhibits smaller probability of school delays. The effect is stronger in children 6 to 10 years old than in children 11 to 14 years old.
