DISCRIMINANT ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGICAL CAPACITY BETWEEN NATIONAL INNOVATION SYSTEMS

Resumo: Environmental damage caused by economic and institutional activities are arecurring concern in debates on the economic subject. Due to the great relevance andinternational traits of environmental issues, the objectives for a more sustainable planetbecome crucial for all countries. Current work identifies possible conditioning factors tothe environmental capacity of developed and developing countries. The formulation oftwo methodological techniques provided a static mapping of specific transitivity amonggroups of forty world economies during analysis and of interaction between scientificareas and technological fields as from environmental patents. Clusters analysis and discriminating analysis were applied. Main results contribute towards evolutionary literature and progress (albeit smaller) with regard to the evolution of the national systems ofinnovation of developing countries. These traits contribute towards policy strategies in environmental technological development.

Nesse quesito, a inovação é o papel-chave para que os países encontrem respostas diante dos desafios ambientais e, simultaneamente, promovam oportunidades para esses novos estímulos. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é identificar possíveis transições à capacidade ambiental dos países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento. A pesquisa analisa o desempenho das inovações ambientais nos anos de 1990, 2000 e 2010, considerando elementos que revelam osdiferentes graus de sistemas nacionais de inovação. A articulação de duas técnicas metodológicas, a saber, a análise de clusters e a análise discriminante, permitem avaliar a transição entre grupos de 40 economias mundiais nos períodos de análise.
