Resumo: This study seeks to identify and analyze the sources of growth of agribusiness exports from Rio Grande do Sul between 1999 and 2016, a period marked by internaland external economic transformations, especially the rise and decline of agricultural commodity prices. In order to achieve this objective it was used the Constant Market Share model. The results were analyzed in the light of theoretical and applied literature about food consumption patterns in the world, and corroborate the thesis that the growth and portfolio changes of the agribusiness exports from Rio Grande do Sul areincreasingly linked to demand from Global South countries. For Rio Grande do Sul the food consumption patterns changes in these countries, especially China, acted as an important incentive for the productive specialization in sectors where competitiveness is based on costs and there is limited space for product differentiation.

Esse estudo busca identificar e analisar as fontes de crescimento das exportações do agronegócio do Rio Grande do Sul entre 1999 e 2016, período marcado por transformações econômicas internas e externas, com destaque para a ascensãoe declínio dos preços das commodities agrícolas. Para o atendimento desse objetivo, recorre-se ao modelo matemático constant market share. Os resultados são analisados à luz de estudos teóricos e aplicados sobre os padrões de consumo alimentar no mundo e corroboram a tese de que o crescimento e a mudança da pauta de exportações do agronegócio gaúcho estão cada vez mais vinculados à demanda de países que compõem o que se convencionou chamar de Sul global.
