Resumo: This article presents data from research conducted as part of a dissertation in management and regional development. The goal is to identify the reality of access for former prisoners to education and work as social rights. The research is exploratory with quantitative and qualitative strategies. The results showed the profile of young graduates with little qualification and with incomplete secondary education. After been in prison, the prisoners faced difficulties in finding a job because of their criminal background. This study concludes that there is need for more investments in education and work in order to accumulate human capital for these graduates to access the formal labor market after been in prison.

Seu objetivo é identificar a realidade de acesso por parte de egressos do sistema penitenciário à educação e trabalho enquanto direitos sociais. A pesquisa é exploratória com uma abordagem quanti-qualitativa. Seus resultados apresentaram o perfil de jovens egressos com pouca qualificação profissional e com ensino médio incompleto. Durante a prisão tiveram mais acesso ao trabalho do que à educação. Após a prisão houve o agravante dos antecedentes criminais dificultando o acesso ao mercado de trabalho.
