Resumo: This article seeks to highlight the policies of recognition and appreciation of teachers along the historical process. It also aims to analyze the establishment of low wages paid to Elementary School teachers in Minas Gerais, as well as the policies of professional recognition created by the state governments for the profession of teacher. It also investigates, in the history of Minas Gerais, some elements that reveal how teachers becomes workers and the initial wages set by the governments and the taxes created to finance education. Finally, it unveils how the Minhas Gerais governments recognized the profession, set wages and evaluated the struggles for the constitution of the professorship between 1900 and 2014.

Investiga ainda, no percurso histórico mineiro, alguns elementos que revelam como o professor passa a ser um trabalhador e as primeiras remunerações fixadas pelos governos e os tributos criados para financiar a educação.
