Resumo: This article explores the impact of the alignment to the United States during the two administrations of Carlos Menem (1989-1995 and 1995-1999) in the definition of criteria related to the defense system organization, and to the design of the strategic military capabilities of the Argentine State.

El trabajo argumenta que el sostenimiento de la alianza con Washington requirió renunciar a la posesión y el desarrollo de determinadas capacidades y tecnologías que causaban desconfianza en las élites de la potencia global.
