This monograph had as the main motivation the perception of how the linguistic variety is presented in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. We believe this is a problem that has come since the formation of the professors, and that it is an issue that comprehends far beyond the number of geolectal variations the Spanish Language has. This work especially dedicates to comment on the difficulties the undergraduate student of Spanish finds – both in the learning phase as well as in the teaching practice. We propose an approach which intends to join, to the current studies of dialectology, the systematic vision of the levels of organization of the language. We also address the perception of the pupil on the phenomena of linguistic variation and of how some of currently used didactic manuals in Brazil deal with this issue. The present work, therefore, is an attempt to display the panorama of the didactic treatment the thematic of the linguistic variety has been receiving in Brazil and to help value what this variety represents from the concepts that mix the levels of language organization and some concepts of the sociolinguistic.
