The idea of a political project in the Brazilian workers movement during the First Republic (1889-1930)

In this article, three movements that were organized by the Brazilian working class at different times during the First Republic will be analyzed: the formation of the Liga Agrícola Industrial de Porto Alegre, founded in 1889, in the transition from monarchy to the republican regime; the first Partido Comunista do Brasil, created from the Aliança Anarquista do Rio de Janeiro in 1919, at the height of the workers’ mobilizations of the period; and the Bloco Operário e Camponês, which existed between 1927 and 1930, in an initiative that had the decisive participation of the communist militants. The objective of this text is to recover the meaning of these movements using the concept of political project to understand proposals of organization that thought a new conformation of power, but that were not constituted in a traditional way (as parties) in its organizational model
