Resumo: In the last seventy years Colombia has been and still is to some extent the picture of a devastating internal armed conflict. Although empirical data are not always available or reliable, several official and NGO sources indicate that there may be more than five million victims of internal armed conflict (more than 10% of the population), of which around 250,000 have lost their lives and 30,000 have forcibly disappeared. Some 5,000 massacres have been reported. Another seven million have been forced to move, the second highest figure in the world, after Sudan. Serious criminal conduct, such a large-scale kidnapping to demand ransom, drug trafficking and organized crime, is also intertwined in this context.
