Resumo: The article discusses the documentary filmmaking by indigenous peoples considering the project Video in the Villages. It proposes an incursion in the history of the ethnographic film to investigate the production methods of some filmmakers and identify the principles of this new filmmaking dynamics, in which the participation of the subjects represents a new epistemological attitude. After, it analyses the documentary O manejo da câmera, produced by the indigenous filmmakers of the Kuikuro ethnic group, in the Alto Xingu.

La primera parte se propone una incursión en la historia del documental etnográfico para investigar los métodos de realización de algunos cineastas y identificar las bases de esta dinámica de rodaje, en que la participación de los sujetos, hasta ahora sólo observados, aparece como una nueva actitud epistemológica. La segunda parte está dedicada al análisis filmica del documental O manejo da câmera, en que el pueblo indígena Kuikuro, de Alto Xingu, muestra la relación de su comunidad con el aparato técnico de la cámara.O artigo discute a realização de documentários por comunidades indígenas a partir do projeto Vídeo nas Aldeias. Propõe uma incursão na história do documentário etnográfico para investigar os métodos de realização de alguns cineastas e identificar os fundamentos dessa dinâmica de filmagem, na qual a participação dos sujeitos configura-se como uma nova atitude epistemológica.
