Theoretical-methodological combinations in an ethnographic experience with adolescents

Resumo: In this article, we propose ways to investigate how adolescents participate in the production of meaning on the internet. It is a report of a qualitative research, made with a group of twelve adolescents, between fifteen and seventeen years old, students of a public school in Aparecida de Goiânia, Goiás. We make an analysis of the procedures adopted in the field research, theoretically based on the Latin American Culture Studies. The objective is to develop a viable proposal for conducting empirical research in the field of Communication, based on the social uses of YouTube and Instagram. Therefore, from the combination of ethnographic techniques, such as participant observation, group discussion and in-depth individual interviews, we map and discuss the processes of image circulation and reframing, considering the specific needs of these young people. We emphasize the need to maintain a flexible posture in the empirical dynamics to understand the demands of the interviewees and accept their contributions, without losing sight of the central axis of the research, but allowing adaptations to be made in a reflective process that must happen not only in the analysis of the data, but also during its production.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, feita com um grupo de doze adolescentes goianos, na faixa etária de quinze a dezessete anos, estudantes de uma escola estadual em Aparecida de Goiânia, Goiás. Aqui, faremos uma análise dos procedimentos adotados na pesquisa de campo, fundamentada teoricamente nos Estudos da Cultura Latino-Americanos. O objetivo é elaborar uma proposta viável de realização de pesquisa empírica no campo da Comunicação, partindo dos usos sociais do YouTube e do Instagram, plataformas constituídas por múltiplos recursos audiovisuais populares entre os entrevistados. Portanto, a partir da combinação de técnicas etnográficas de produção de dados, tais como observação participante, discussão em grupo e entrevistas individuais em profundidade, mapeamos e discutimos os processos de circulação e ressignificação de imagens, considerando as necessidades específicas destes jovens.
