Resumo: | Podcasting is a media process that emerges from the publication of audio files in the Internet. Due to its minimal technological structure demands, the production and distribution may occur through a simplified way by only one person. That is, this allows independent productions with a global reach. The podcasts may not only be searched on the net, but they can also be subscribed (through the RSS service) for automatic download of new episodes to an aggregator software. Besides audio, each program may contain images, hypertext links and be divided into chapters. This way, mere listening is overcome, with the addition of a multimedia experience and new navigational forms, within the program or in the net. Podcasting, though, may not be reduced to an easy transmission of content in the Internet and new forms of reception. As podcasts are normally related to a blog, a dialogical interaction may occur among all the participants of the process, blurring the traditional separation between production and reception instances in mass media. Besides detailing production and reception conditions of podcasts, in contrast to radio, this article also discusses the remediation process between podcasting and radio, the potencial of this new medium as micromedia (Thronton, 1996) and its impact on the music industry. |

Debido a la mínima estructura tecnológica exigida, la producción y distribución puede ser realizada de manera simplificada por apenas una persona. O sea, viabiliza una producción independiente de alcance global. Los podcasts pueden no solo ser buscados en la Internet, sino también firmados (mediante el recurso RSS) para la recepción automática de nuevos episodios, a través del uso de un software agregador. Además del audio, cada programa puede contener imágenes, links hipertextuales y ser dividido en capítulos. De esa manera, se supera la simple y mera escucha y se ofrece una experiencia multimedia y formas de navegación, sea en el interior del programa o en la red. El podcasting por lo tanto, no se resume en la fácil emisión de contenido en la red y nuevas formas de recepción. Como los podcasts son normalmente vinculados a un blog, la interacción dialogal puede ocurrir entre todos los participantes del proceso, borrando la tradicional separación entre las instancias de producción y recepción del contexto masivo. Además de detallar las condiciones de producción y recepción de podcasts, en contraste con la radio, este artículo busca además reflexionar sobre el proceso de remediación entre el podcasting y la radiodifusión, y el potencial de este nuevo medio como micromedia (Thornton, 1996) y su impacto en la industria fonográfica.Podcasting é um processo midiático que emerge a partir da publicação de arquivos de áudio na Internet. Em virtude da mínima estrutura tecnológica exigida, a produção e a distribuição podem ser realizadas de maneira simplificada até por uma única pessoa. Ou seja, viabiliza uma produção independente de alcance global. Os podcasts podem não apenas ser buscados na Internet, como também ser assinados (através do recurso RSS) para recebimento automático de novos episódios através do uso de um software agregador. Além do áudio, cada programa pode conter imagens, links hipertextuais e ser dividido em capítulos. Dessa forma, ultrapassa-se a mera escuta, oferecendo-se uma experiência multimídia e formas de navegação, tanto no interior do programa quanto na rede. O podcasting, no entanto, não se resume à fácil emissão de conteúdo na rede e novas formas de recepção. Como os podcasts são normalmente vinculados a um blog, a interação dialogal pode ocorrer entre todos os participantes do processo, borrando a tradicional separação entre as instâncias de produção e recepção no contexto massivo.
