Ox, climate and irony: the convergence of risks involving journalistic discourse and climate change

It is not always that journalistic discourse related to climate change links this phenomenon to agricultural and husbandry, which are considered one of its causes. This article aims to investigate how journalistic discourse stands in relation to husbandry/climate change duo at different points in time. The study is qualitative and its theoretical-methodological foundation is provided by the French-school Discourse Analysis (DA), reinforced by Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), which allow the ideological aspects present in speech to be evaluated. Its results indicate that social-historical circumstances constrain the expression of these discourses, suggesting that there are different uses and functions of this figure of speech. The conclusion is that ironic discourse can pose a risk if the receiver does not understand the contradiction between the absurd interface and the implied seriousness.
