Resumo: Campos dos Goytacazes County is located on the north coast of Rio de Janeiro State. The city of Campos dos Goytacazes was developed on a flooding plain and due to the fragility of the physical environment; the city has been suffering serious environmental problems. The methodology used base in acquisition of data bank, remote sensoring techniques, Field Information and application of SIG ArcGis9. In a first step, the themes geology, pedology and geomorphology units was overlaying, where could obtain a Geological-Geotechnical Units Map, with lowed and elevated units, the which had been defined in accordance with its characteristics. The purpose of this map, as well as the objective of the work is to plan the territory for the future generations

A cidade desenvolveu-se sobre uma planície de inundação e devido à fragilidade do meio físico, vem sofrendo sérios problemas ambientais. A metodologia utilizada baseou-se em levantamento de campo, aquisição e construção de banco de dados, uso de técnicas de sensoriamento remoto e aplicação do SIG ArcGis9. Após o cruzamento dos temas geologia, pedologia e geomorfologia, foi obtido o Mapa Preliminar de Unidades Geológico-Geotécnicas com unidades de baixada e elevadas, as quais foram definidas de acordo com suas características.
