This study aims to analyze the purposes of the use of information and knowledge in a private institution of higher education in the city of Itabira, Minas Gerais, from the perspective of its collaborators. In the methodology used in this study, we used the qualitative research approach, of the descriptive type regarding the ends and field research on the means. The research universe consisted of the private higher education institutions of Minas Gerais. The sampling criterion chosen was non-probabilistic, for accessibility and for typicity, which defined as a sample the Community Foundation of Higher Education of Itabira (FUNCESI). Using as instrument for data collection, a semi-structured interview focused on three managers And three teachers, in addition to use to verify the data collected, content analysis. The main results of the research were; The mapping of the concept of information and knowledge among the research subjects; Identification of types and applications of informationand knowledge in the Institution, which made it possible, through the analysis, to compare the data collected with the literature present in this study, with the perceptions of the respondents, showing similarity between them. Finally, it was possible to observe that, from the information obtained, the research subjects arrive at considerations quite close to those recommended by the authors of the researched literature, although they succinctly define the information as something that derives from the data, which contextualized result in meanings / Information and knowledge as a process of knowing, creating and making sense.
