Identification of accounting concepts and techniques used by accounting professors in Governador Valadares - MG

Resumo: Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify the use of accounting concepts and techniques in the management of personal assets by professors in the area who work in the municipality of Governador Valadares-MG. Methodology: For this, a study was carried out applying questionnaires (survey) were applied to teachers in four higher education institutions in the city. A population of 48 professionals was surveyed, with a return of 37 responses. The collected data were tabulated using a matrix in Microsoft Excel and the closed questions were coded and exported to the statistical software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Finally, frequency tables were generated, which provided a descriptive analysis. Results: The most used practices are the preparation of the Personal Budget and the monitoring of Cash Flows. Although accounting practices are not applied in their entirety, the professors were very prudent in managing their finances, avoiding indebtedness and influencing their families to follow suit. Contributions of the Study: The study contributes by demonstrating that teaching about personal accounting in the investigated institutions is scarce, as well as the existing literature little explores this theme and more than half of the professors, even knowledgeable about the subject, do not use accounting statements in their daily lives. Thus, it collaborates by disseminating its importance, and paves the way by suggesting new research and encouraging teaching organizations to include the topic in their curriculum.

Metodología: Para ello, se realizó un estudio aplicando cuestionarios (encuesta) a docentes de cuatro instituciones de educación superior de la ciudad. Se encuestó a una población de 48 profesionales, con un retorno de 37 respuestas. Los datos recolectados fueron tabulados utilizando una matriz en Microsoft Excel y las preguntas cerradas fueron codificadas y exportadas al software estadístico Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Finalmente, se generaron tablas de frecuencia, que permitieron un análisis descriptivo. Resultados: Las prácticas más utilizadas son la elaboración del Presupuesto Personal y el seguimiento de los Flujos de Caja. Aunque las prácticas contables no se aplican en su totalidad, los profesores fueron muy prudentes en el manejo de sus finanzas, evitando el endeudamiento e influyendo en sus familias para que hicieran lo mismo. Contribuciones del Estudio: El estudio contribuye al demostrar que la enseñanza sobre contabilidad personal en las instituciones investigadas es escasa, así como la literatura existente poco explora este tema y más de la mitad de los profesores, aún conocedores del tema, no utilizan estados contables en su cotidiano. Así, colabora difundiendo su importancia, y abre camino sugiriendo nuevas investigaciones y animando a las organizaciones docentes a incluir el tema en su currículo.Objetivo: O objetivo do presente estudo consiste em identificar a utilização dos conceitos e técnicas contábeis na gestão do patrimônio pessoal pelos docentes da área atuantes no município de Governador Valadares-MG. Metodologia: Para isso, foi realizado um estudo aplicando questionários (survey) para docentes em quatro instituições de ensino superior na cidade. Foi levantado uma população de 48 profissionais, com retorno de 37 respostas. Os dados coletados foram tabulados por meio de uma matriz no Microsoft Excel e as questões fechadas foram codificadas e exportados para o software estatístico Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Por fim, foram geradas tabelas de frequência, que proporcionaram uma análise descritiva. Resultados: As práticas mais utilizadas são a elaboração do Orçamento Pessoal e o acompanhamento dos Fluxos de Caixa. Embora as práticas contábeis não sejam aplicadas em sua totalidade, os docentes se mostraram bastante prudentes na gestão das suas finanças, evitando o endividamento e influenciando seus familiares a seguirem o exemplo. Contribuições do Estudo: O estudo contribui por demonstrar que o ensino sobre contabilidade pessoal nas instituições investigadas é escasso, bem como a literatura existente pouco explora essa temática e mais da metade dos docentes, mesmo sabedores do assunto, não utiliza as demonstrações contábeis no seu dia a dia.
