WHICH ATTRIBUTES DEFINE A GOOD TEACHER? PERCEPTION OF ACCOUNTING COURSES STUDENTS OFFERED IN BRAZIL AND PORTUGAL

Resumo: | This research was developed in order to identify and compare which attributes Accounting students enrolled in courses offered in Brazil and Portugal define the teacher as “good”. The study is based in the Lowman model (2004), which argues that the profile of a good teacher can be set from a set of six attributes: (i) knowledge, planning and didatic, (ii) technological capacity, (iii) relationships with students, (iv) personal attributes (v) ability of motivation and (vi) its level of demand. The survey was conducted through an electronic questionnaire with 151 students linked to the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (91 students) and the Universidade de Aveiro (60 students). It used the factor analysis technique for data analysis. The findings indicate that Brazilian students define the good teacher as one who has mastery the discipline subject, didactics and clarity in explanations. Portuguese students consider most important attributes theoretical and practical knowledge and ability to create connection between them, and indicate the importance of mastering the discipline subject and the ability to explain. In summary, the key attributes to define a “good teacher”, are linked to planning, knowledge, didactic, relationship skills and motivation. Students Preferences.Este estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar y comparar los atributos que en la percepción de los estudiantes de Contabilidad cursos ofrecidos en Brasil y Portugal definen el buen profesor. El estudio está anclado en el modelo Lowman (2004), que sostiene que el perfil de un buen profesor puede establecerse a partir de un conjunto de seis atributos: (i) el conocimiento, la planificación y la enseñanza, (ii) la capacidad tecnológica, (iii) relaciones con los estudiantes, (iv) los atributos personales (v) la capacidad para motivar y (vi) el nivel de la demanda. Para realizar la investigación, desarrollada a través de una encuesta cuestionario electrónico con 151 estudiantes vinculados a la Universidade Federal de Rio Grande (91 estudiantes) y la Universidade de Aveiro (60 alumnos). Se utilizó la técnica de análisis factorial para el análisis de datos. Los resultados indican que los estudiantes brasileños definen el buen profesor como el que tiene el dominio del contenido, que es didáctico y muestra explicaciones claras. Estudiantes portugueses conceden gran importancia a atributos tales como el conocimiento teórico y práctico y capacidad de conectarse entre ellos, e indican la importancia de tener el dominio del contenido y poder explicativo. En resumen, la clave para definir los atributos de un buen profesor están vinculados a la planificación, el conocimiento, la enseñanza, las características de relación y motivación, que explica el 94% del buen perfil de profesor.Palabras clave: Atribuye el Buen Profesor. Estudiantes Preferencias.Esta investigação buscou identificar e comparar os atributos que na percepção de alunos de cursos de Ciências Contábeis ofertados no Brasil e em Portugal definem o bom professor. O estudo está ancorado no modelo de Lowman (2004), que defende que o perfil do bom professor pode ser definido a partir de um conjunto de seis atributos: (i) conhecimento, planejamento e didática, (ii) capacidade tecnológica, (iii) relacionamento com os discentes, (iv) atributos pessoais, (v) capacidade de motivação e (vi) nível de exigência. O levantamento foi conduzido por meio de questionário eletrônico com 151 alunos vinculados a Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (91 estudantes) e a Universidade de Aveiro (60 estudantes). Empregou-se a técnica de análise fatorial para análise dos dados. Os achados indicam que os estudantes brasileiros definem o bom professor como aquele que tem domínio do conteúdo, que tem didática e se mostra claro nas explicações. Os estudantes portugueses atribuem maior importância a atributos como conhecimento teórico e prático e capacidade de estabelecer ligação entre estes, além de indicarem a relevância de possuir domínio do conteúdo e capacidade de explicação. Em síntese, os principais atributos para definir um bom professor estão ligados ao planejamento, conhecimento, didática, características de relacionamento e motivação, que explicam 94% do perfil do bom professor.Palavras-chave: Atributos do bom professor.
