Brazil has been experiencing a marked aging of the population. This change in the profile of the country needs to be considered in the scope of professional training in health in universities, providing a degree that prepares the future professional to act in the health care of the elderly. This study aims to describe the meanings attributed by nursing students to the professional training in health, particularly in the thematic of aging. This is a qualitative research of the exploratory-descriptive type carried out at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte / Faculty of Health Sciences of Trairi, in the city of Santa Cruz-RN. The research was developed and based on the ethical principles of Resolution No. 466/2012 of the National Health Council on research involving human beings. The sample consisted of 21 students from the Nursing course, who agreed to participate voluntarily in the study. For the data collection, we used individual recorded interviews, the material of which was submitted to Content Analysis. It is clear that the University has the concern of training future professionals qualified for the job market, able to take care of the other. However, in the students' conception, undergraduate education is still very focused on curative assistance, which makes it increasingly distant from a training that prepares to deal with elderly patients who are experiencing the aging process, this fragility in formation is Seen in the speeches of the students.
