Resumo: The evaluation of postural balance consists of clinical and laboratory tests which diagnose the functional state of each patient. The technique used in laboratory tests is posturography, which evaluates variables related to oscillation of center of pressure. In this study, a tool capable of measuring the velocity and displacement of lower limbs is proposed as an aiding tool in diagnosis of the physiotherapist. For this, a system consisting of accelerometers, prototyping platform Arduino and other electronic components to measure oscillations. The sensors provide the acceleration, the velocity and the displacement of each lower limb was calculated by means of integration in Matlab software. The Modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction and Body Balance (mCTSIB) was run with the elaborated system, on 10 volunteers, to verify the tool’s performance. The results showed larger velocities and amplitudes in group A (participants that have declared weaknesses that compromise their body balance or are elderly) than on group B (healthy young participants). There was no significant predominance of a lower limb in relation to the other, due to the sample being quite heterogeneous. Through the analyzed case, with elderly volunteer, was graphically displayed the disparity in oscillatory motion between the lower limbs in each condition of the mCTSIB. The system proved to be a tool with great potential for use in evaluations of body balance, by highlighting plausible results, being low-cost and of easy acquisition.

A técnica utilizada nos testes laboratoriais é posturografia, que avalia variáveis referentes à oscilação do centro de pressão. No presente estudo, é proposta uma ferramenta capaz de medir a velocidade e o deslocamento dos membros inferiores, como um instrumento de subsídio no diagnóstico do fisioterapeuta. Para isso, foi elaborado um sistema composto por acelerômetros, plataforma de prototipagem Arduino e outros componentes eletrônicos para mensurar as oscilações. Os sensores fornecem a aceleração, por meio de integrações foi calculada a velocidade e a posição de cada membro inferior no software Matlab. Foi executado o Teste Clínico Modificado de Integração Sensorial e Equilíbrio Corporal (mCTSIB) com o sistema elaborado, em 10 voluntários, para verificar o desempenho da ferramenta. Os resultados mostraram velocidades e amplitudes maiores no grupo A (participantes que declararam alguma debilidade que comprometesse o equilíbrio corporal ou que era idoso) que no grupo B (jovens saudáveis). Não houve predominância significativa de um membro em relação ao outro, em razão da amostra ser bastante heterogênea. Por meio do caso analisado, com voluntário idoso, foi visualizado graficamente a disparidade no movimento oscilatório entre os membros inferiores em cada condição do mCTSIB.
