Resumo: | Over the years, the fast process of urbanization has been a major problem to Natal. In the last decades, the city has had an increase of population, wealth and, therefore, increase of car ownership. However, sometimes the public transport systems do not have the same development as the city, and this is reflected in traffic congestions, inefficient public transportation, among other major problems. In big cities around the world, one of the main solutions for this problem is the use of metro, a means of transportation of high efficiency, with capacity to transport a great number of people in a short time, if compared to other means of transportation. This paper aims to study the key points involved in a metro project, and applying this study to Natal, through the use of examples of metros, study of demand and study of the main roads in Natal, presenting two possibilities of lines, tunneling methods, models of emergency exit and a location to a maintenance center. |

Nas últimas décadas, a cidade apresentou aumento populacional, aumento de riquezas e, consequentemente, aumento na posse de carros. Entretanto, os meios de transporte público não acompanharam o desenvolvimento apresentado pela cidade, isso acabou se refletindo em congestionamentos nas vias, falta de transporte público de qualidade, entre outros problemas. Nas grandes cidades do mundo, uma das soluções para esse problema é a utilização do metrô, um meio de transporte de alta eficiência, com capacidade para transportar um grande contingente de pessoas em tempos reduzidos, se comparado a outros meios de transporte.
