Narcotour em Medellín - Colômobia: contradições socioespaciais e refuncionalização

In Colombia, especially in Medellín, a tourist route called narcotour is carried out which includes visits to residences, estates and Pablo Escobar’s tomb, a famous Colombian drug trafficker who died in the 1990s. Because it’s such complex figure in the Colombian history and memory people and by refers to an illicit activity that promoted a high level of violence in Colombia, this research aims to reveal the possible socio-spatial contradictions promoted by the execution of the narcotour, as well to investigate if the narcotour accomplishment has led to a refunctionalization of the objects inserted in the script, making them suitable for tourist consumption. In order to reach the goal, the methodology was based on bibliographic research, in loco observation of objects, as well as qualitative analysis of semi -structured interviews. In this way, it was possible to identify veiled conflicts between society, tourists, tourism agencies and the government and the refunctionalization of certain objects by the new uses and valorization induced by narcotour.
