The following work proposes the creation of new tools for teaching music, based on methods utilized in a specialized school. It also discusses the role of the teacher and his or her importance in developing the process for attaining projected goals, as well as the importance of maintaining a good relationship with the student. In this monograph, the author demonstrates how valuing the cultural baggage of the students and the teacher-student relationship can make success possible and awaken the interest of students in music theory. With the intention of exemplifying how this can be realized, the author developed a book of introduction to music theory utilizing Rock form as a tool for teaching. To this end, he did both field research and a study of available material. Together with the text book, he organized a CD as support material containing the music examples cited in the book. This material (CD and textbook) found in the annex works exclusively with elementary themes of music education. The chapters of this monograph present the motives which led him to choose the theme “Rock as a resource for music education: a proposal for teaching music” and the reasons why he suggests the development of new resources which can produce results in music education. Finally, the main objective of this work is to awaken in teachers the initiative to seek new avenues in music education.
